Land Ho?

I will be shipping out to sea for 4 months come the end of October. I am hoping to get a spot on a break-bulk ship with runs to Africa. It's not exactly where you go on vacation so that's one reason why I am trying to go there. It's a dangerous, unhealthy, wild continent. And that's exactly why I want to go. Why would I get on a ship that goes on a cost-wise run along the states? Where's the excitement in that? I mean, are you serious? Don't get me wrong. Someone has to do it, and in the immortal words of my biology teacher in high school, "Someone has to take out the trash too." (sorry for the harshness, but welcome to life) The way I see it, I have the chance to see the world. It's at my finger tips. I have 4 months aboard a ship. Storms, fires, break downs, foreign ports, underhanded customs agents. What more could a guy ask for in an adventure? Oh yeah, I'm getting paid to take part in all of this marvelous insanity too.
