Into the Fire

This past Tuesday, I went to fire fighting school. I have never had an adrenaline rush as I had kneeling in front of a steel door and waiting for it to be opened and then walking into the smoke and heat and flames. There is a trust that develops very quickly. We are all the closest of friends already, but it went even further that day. We took care of each other. When my partner and I went into one of the rooms his helmet fell off. I had just hit the fire with the hose, shut it off, and turned around; he was fumbling with his helmet trying to get it back on. I grabbed his helmet pressed it onto his head and said let's go! I didn't give him the chance to argue or not, i just pulled/pushed him out. We looked over each other just before a pair would go in for each drill. Check their helmet, air tank, valves, regulator. Everything. This is how we Christians should live. Everyday, we should wake up and get into our bunker gear and have someone check us out before we go into the "fire" affectionately called life.
